Caramel Hair Treatment .. Natural Hair Softener

4:15 PM

This treatment softens and hydrates the driest and the roughest hair textures.  It can also help people who are transitioning to stretch their relaxers for longer periods of time before they Big Chop. And helps those with natural hair by softening the texture for easier de-tangling and manageability.  The results of the caramel treatment are not permanent; they last for up to 4 weeks so should be reapplied monthly for continued benefits. Many report loosening of hair texture as well as less shrinkage after the treatment but this is likely due to the added weight of the product as well as the increased moisture levels in the hair. For this reason, the caramel  treatment is excellent for helping to straightening the natural hair as it takes less heat to get smoother results as well as better moisture retention.

Simple recipe that can be tweaked for your individual hair needs

Honey - 6 tablespoons - An excellent humectant good for moisture

Olive Oil - 6 tablespoons - For lubrication and helps with moisture retention

Bananas - 2-3 overripe and very soft - Good for moisture and some protein benefits as well

Molasses (Treacle) - 3 tablespoons - Another excellent humectant with some protein benefits

Water - 4-6 tablespoons - This is the best natural moisturizer and is used to thin the mixture

Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 tablespoon - For the shine it imparts to the hair

1-4 oz can of Coconut Milk - Promotes hair growth and is a great moisturizer

Cornstarch - For thickening purposes (optional)

Wheat germ oil - For added strength and lubrication (optional)

**I have never tried this treatment before but, I would recommend mixing this in a blender so the mixture has a smoother texture.  If you have done this treatment before please leave a comment, positive or negative, about your experience.**

  3. Tried this treatment a couple of times. The hair feels soft when the mixture is in the hair (prior to washing) but the next day it leaves hair quite hard to handle. Rating 4/10.

  8. Okay..I did this today. Now let me tell you something, I'm 7 months natural and moisture was a challenge for me. I've been deep conditioning and all that, but for some reason my hair just did feel like it was moisturized, and it was just so damn frizzy. I came across this treatment online and the ingredients amazed me. Moisturizing ingredients, something that my hair was in dying need of. So I tried it...and my hair loves it!!! This moisturized my hair completely and it reduced the frizz. I would definitely place this into my regimen from now on. I'l give this a 10/10!!

  10. This product is actually sitting on my head now, just waiting to rinse it out. I came across a youtube video similar to this one and the only thing is she used coconut oil but said wheat germ was fine too and I wish I knew about the coconut milk for hair growth. Next time I will use it in the mixture. I really cannot wait to see the results. I am almost 7 months post relaxer and decided to try the diva smooth, but there was so much talk about this recipe, it seemed way cheaper than paying for that and I was able to get the stuff today, as opposed to waiting for it to be shipped. I love your site and will post how my hair turns out. :)
