Rain? Who Cares...My Hair Is Natural!!
3:13 PM
I hear this statement repeated constantly!! Supposedly because your natural getting caught in the rain withOUT an umbrella is no big deal. Ummm...how many of y'all feel the same way? I sure don't. After how ever many minutes (hours sometimes) of doing my hair and styling it just right I wouldn't dare talk a walk in the rain withOUT an umbrella...if I didn't have to. And if I couldn't find one I'd substitute with a plastic bag or something...anything lol!
With that being said, I still LOVE this picture!
If you guys find the artist's info please send it my way :)
30 People Obsessing!
I'm going to have to agree with you on that one! If I go out in the rain after a pretty twist out I'll come back in with it all shriveled up an no curl definition. I sooo wanted to believe in that saying after I went natural but it's just simply not true for me : (
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that!
ReplyDeleteOMG..I did a post on this last week! I totally agree! I do not, I repeat, do NOT like to go out in the rain lol. If it frizzed when it was relaxed it sure as hell frizzes now lol. The only relief I find in my relationship with rain as woman with natural hair as opposed to relaxed is a financial relief. When relaxed, if it got wet I was pissed not only that it frizzed but because I spent my money getting it done only to have it ruined. Now if it frizzes, I can just do it over myself. I dunno just a thought, but again I agree with you. Rain never was my friend lol.

When my hair is straight, I avoid rain like the plague. Other than that, I don't care at all about it. But maybe that's because my hair stays in a wet bun... lol
ReplyDeleteWhile I do love this painting, I couldn't agree with you more. In fact, I've never had a perm, but I've ALWAYS had to worry about rain ruining any of my "out" hairstyles, and exacerbating braid/twist fuzz. The notion that only relaxed women have to worry about rain was news to me, because I certainly try to avoid it, and always have!
ReplyDeleteI HATE umbrellas . . . they're messy and get everything wet when i'm done with it. So I'm with the lovely lady in the picture . . . I may wear a hood or hat but I'm a okay dodging raindrops :)
ReplyDeleteI have say it all depends on how you keep your hair if your hair are in twist or mini braids it may not matter, but if your hair is straight then of course you do not want it to get wet. I know for me it does not matter if my hair gets wet, because I keep my hair in mini braids or some tupe of twist. I have been natural for over fifteen years and to me it is just hair so what if it gets wet.

ReplyDeleteLOL well I just came out of a light rain about 3 minutes ago and I didn't care that my hair was getting wet because it's in twists.. if it was straight it definitely would not have flown so easily
ReplyDeleteI usually wash and go, so rain only makes it look better. And when I was relaxed, I would run out in the rain all the time and my hair would stay straight. I'm more of a Bohemian though and can't be bothered to carry an umbrella... or style my hair in a fashion that would require one.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more. I have no clue what other naturals are talking about. I spend more time styling my hair now that I'm natural. So hell no to getting it wet in the rain lol! Oddly enough when I was relaxed I wasn't bothered about my hair getting wet.
ReplyDeleteI AGREE! I LOVE BEING NATURAL! HOWEVER, I SPEND SO MUCH TIME ON MY HAIR NOW THAT I AM NATURAL AND I CAN NOT WALK AROUND WITH UNDEFINED CURLS AFTER I PUT A LOT OF WORK INTO IT BECAUSE OF THE RAIN! LOL. LOVELY PICTURE THOUGH!
ReplyDeleteGOD BLESS!

The artist of the print that you have is T.Kimberlyn she has a youtube page under the name Renegade Behavior. She also has an etsy shop but I think she has shut it down or have sold out of all that she had through the etsy shop. If you go to her youtube page she has a video of some of her designs and also a link to her web page of some sort.
ReplyDeleteI am not afraid of the rain now cos unlike when my hair were relaxed, the rain can't ruin my style anymore;

It's awesome to hear everyone's different view on this, thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind. My hair is only going to do more of the same-curls become tighter and a bit of frizz takes hold. However, I'm not big on styles; my hair is usually in a bun or ponytail.
ReplyDeletecompletely agree!!! who can seriously go outside and not have their frizz up?? no one cause its a lie!! lol the only time i don't worry about the rain is when i have twist extensions or when i had permed hair. usually when it rains i wear a hat or an updo and hope for the best. i'd like to hear what others do with their hair on rainy days or products that reduce frizz :D
ReplyDeleteRain is awesome if I am wearing loose hair...or a wash n go....but braidout.. no it's not gonna hold up lol or any other "out" style... <3 <3
ReplyDeleteI don't usually mind the rain terribly... but I agree. If I spend time doing a beautiful twist out/braid out/some other style ... I will avoid the rain! It makes my hair frizz. and when my hair is straight?! FORGET ABOUT IT! LOL! The rain has never been my hair's friend lol
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with just yesterday I went out in the rain (it wasn't raining very hard) without an umbrella, I had my hair in a fro I stayed out for a few hours, when I got home I decided to braid my hair for bed, it took an HOUR and a half to detangle my hair. The outside of my hair wasn't that bad but the more kinky inside had shrank and was horribly tangled. It was such a mess and painful. Never again. LOL
ReplyDeleteI"m more afraid of the rain as a natural then when I had a relaxer :( NOW I've become one of those women who puts on a plastic bag to protect my Afro or twist out. It's true, I worked TOOOOOOO hard to get it fluffy to see it shrink back b/c of rain!!!
ReplyDeleteBut yes, the pic is lovely :)
I love to get caught in the rain since I've been natural! Even if I spent time styling it. I don't know why, I just like the feeling. lol
ReplyDeleteNOT trying to get caught in the rain with my hair out. If my hair is "in" then I'm generally okay with being in the rain but not a downpour.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to agree with you . . .
Merry Christmas!!
I love the photo too, and I wanted to post it on my Tumblr page, with the credit, so I did a little digging. It's by Terrea/T. Kimberlyn, who also goes by Renegade Behavior. You can find her on Facebook:

I don't like being in the rain at all now that i am natural. SSK's and shrinkage after I spent so long looking after it, i dont think so
ReplyDeleteI know for me this is definitely not true. I still run lol, because if my curls get wet I have major shrinkage. But it is not as bad as the days where I was constantly striving for straight hair.
ReplyDeleteI agree with those who stated that it depends on your hairstyle. I mostly rock wash-and-gos and buns, so the rain doesn't ruin my hair. I remember the first day it rained when I was rocking my natural curls and it was one of the most liberating feelings in the world. I had the biggest smile on my face as I walked down the street with no umbrella.
ReplyDeleteI use to feel this way whenever I wore a lot of wash n go's. But now that I do a lot of dry styles.. NO way. I don't want the rain causing my hair to swell out my style!
ReplyDeleteThe rain was more of a problem when I used to relax my hair. But now its not as big of a deal as long as I wear it in a protective style.
ReplyDeleteI only do WNGS since my hate hates braid and twists outs. I get caught in the rain all the time. I shake the rain out of my curls and keep it moving
