Funny. Fashionable. Fabulous is Jade get to know this beauty!!
Where do you live? How is the natural hair community there?
I currently live in DC and commute A LOT to NYC on the weekends. So I claim both as home. In both cities the natural community is very large. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t spot a natural sista rocking a fro or locs.
When and why did you decide to go natural?
I went natural in the summer of 2009. I transitioned for 7 months and in December of 2009 did the big chop. I decided to go natural because I was feed up with my relaxed hair. I always wanted big curly hair and the only way that I could achieve it was to go natural.
Were your friends and family supportive of your decision? If not, how were you able to move forward?
Some of my family members were supportive because two of my cousins had previously gone natural before me so they were used to the process. Of course some of my family had reservations about me cutting all of my hair off but kept their comments to themselves. My friends also supported my decision. In the beginning I tried to style my TWA too much which resulted in some “hot messes” but even then my friends didn’t belittle me.
Describe your hair routine. My hair routine is easy. I cowash every week and shampoo about once a month. Deep conditioning I only do when I feel my hair needs it so that's about every 2 weeks. I moisturize my hair every evening before bed and every morning with a leave in conditioner. I use essential oils to keep moisture in my hair during the fall/winter but not during the spring/summer.
What are some of your favorite hair products?
My favorite hair products are; Kinky Curly Knot Today; Herbal Essence Hello Hydration; Castor Oil, Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, Jojoba Oil, Giovanni Leave-In, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Kinky Curly Custard.
Do you have any hair goals? What steps are you taking to achieve them?
I don’t have any hair goals. During my first year of being natural all I wanted was my hair to grow and grow FAST. I would try all types of products that “promoted fast hair growth” but quickly grew tired of wasting money and time. So I stopped trying to achieve “BSL” by certain date and just focused on taking care of my hair.
How has being natural changed you?Being natural changed my confidence. When I Big Chopped for the first 5 minutes I balled my eyes out. Lol. I had never had short hair before then and thought to myself, “What the hell have I done?” Lol. After a few minutes of admiring my new curly hair and knowing there was no way to attach my chopped locks back to my hair I started to realize that my beauty was not in my hair but it was in me. When I did my Big Chop is was empowering. I was no longer tied to that mentality of the longer your hair the prettier you are.
What are your top 5 obsessions?
• Fashion
• Desserts
• Discovering new restaurants
• Anything techie such as computers, software, cameras & etc.
• Always having a good time no matter where I’m at.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

Product Description
Ingredients: Purified, Deionized Certified Organic Floral Water (of Nettle, Calendula and Chamomile), Carbopol, Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate (Amino Acid derived), Yeast Extract, Panthenol, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Grapefruit Extract.
My Thoughts: I'd been hearing a lot of good reviews on this styling gel from other naturals, so I decided to try it out for myself. I ordered my from LuckyVitamin.com. I used this site several times in the past, they offer low prices and quick shipping. So if you like using organic (or mostly organic) hair products or are just in the market for vitamins, you should definitely check out the site. On to the review...I wore my braid out for 2 days, but on the night of day 2 I noticed a bit of frizz in the crown and middle sections. So to correct the issue I decided to rebraid my hair and use the KMF Gel for extra hold and of course frizz control. I applied it in pretty much the same way I set the original braids, I made a couple in the back a little bit bigger though. The consistency is thinner and more workable than Eco Styler, it kinda reminds me of the As I Am Curling Jelly but with a little more slip. KMF Gel is pH balanced and contains no parabens, phtalates or SLS. The smells is very fresh and citrus, which worked well with the JC Nourish & Shine that was already on my hair. I use a dime sized amount for each braid, covered with a satin scarf and slept. In the morning, I unraveled some Vatika Oil and lightly fluffed.
Although I loved the outcome, I should have used a bit more, because just like the label says the hold is medium. Other than that, my felt very soft, smelled good and had a nice sheen. What more could you want from 3rd day hair :)

...is a braid out of course! Monday or Tuesday (I can't remember) I finally washed my hair. To shampoo I used Shea Moisture Black Soap shampoo, it really helped to get all the buildup from wearing twists for 3 weeks out of my hair. I de-tangled with the matching conditioner and then DC'ed with Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner. Next came the rinse and I began setting my in 16 braids. The products I chose to use this tine around were Argan Oil and Jane Carter's Nourish & Shine...awesome combination. I did use the Jane Carter Leave In on a few of the braids in the back, but I just don't like how it feels on my hair and after 3 braids I threw that stuff right back in the box it came in lol! I keep the braids in until this morning and here's the resulting braid out...
Soft and shiny! A little oily, because I was a bit heavy handed with the Argan Oil, but it wasn't so bad. I would love to wear it down, but I think we're expecting some rain today and/or tonight so I decided to rock a cute pin-up to run some errands...You might remember this simple look from this tutorial >HERE<. It's a quick and easy look and I only used 1 bobby pin to secure it! I hope the rain isn't too brutal tonight, because my hair looks really cute LOL :) Enjoy your day ladies!

I've always been a fan of cucumbers, but I just might start eating them more after reading this article...
-Article via BeautyandGroomingTips.com
Cucumbers have a very high water content of around 96% and are excellent body rehydrators. It contains ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and caffeic acid, fiber, along with minerals like silica, potassium and magnesium. One should eat lots of it, especially in the summer. A widely cultivated vegetable in India, it has a cooling and refreshing effect on the body. This nature's cool customer is also a beauty enhancer. Some of the many uses for the cucumber include: preventing pimples and blackheads, relieve puffy eyes, sore throats and weight loss. Here's a couple tips on how it can also be beneficial to your hair...
For hair growth: Drinking a mixture of cucumber juice and that of carrot regularly stimulates hair growth. The high content of silicon and sulphur in cucumber juice nourishes the hair, nails and skin.
To treat hair after swimming: Swimming in a pool with chlorinated water can cause much damage to your hair. Try this treatment to keep chlorine damage to a minimum. Blend together 1 egg, 3-4 tbsp of olive oil and 1 quarter peeled cucumber. Spread the mixture evenly through your hair, leave on for 10 minutes and then thoroughly rinse.
Interesting right?! There's also a few good skincare recipes in this post as well. If you would like to read the full article, please click >HERE<.
