Oh No They Didn't !!!! Gurl Yes They Did...
While getting my daily fix of bad reality television (yes I'm addicted..lol) on BET a Dark & Lovely commercial pops up on my screen. Now I've seen this commercial many times before but, for some reason this time enough was enough. Are you really trying to convince me that relaxing my hair with a relaxer that has shea butter in it is any better than using a relaxer without it?!? I'm no hair expert but, Im not a total idiot either. Chris Rock's "Good Hair" documentary (which I still haven't seen btw...and don't plan on it) shows what the chemicals in a relaxer can do to a soda can, I don't think adding shea butter will make much of a difference.
I tweeted my opinions on Twitter last night ....
@KinkyKurlyQueen Shea Butter in relaxers...Im struggling to find the point in that
Apparently I wasn't the only one who felt this way...Here's some of the feedback I got from my followers...
like putting vitamins in crack, LMBO -@SmrtNBuetiful
They are trying to make perms more "natural" by adding shea butter... lol... -@Blackposimage
I asked myself the same thing when I saw the cmrl. I think its their way to combat the fallback from #naturalhair -@GoogleMeBabe
It boosts the moisture making hair soft, shiny and supple (insert picture of hair strand with the shea butter soaking in) -@Talisa3636
Do you really want the "white girl flow"? i would rather have the "natural shake" myself! LOL -@napturalroots
Im thinking that shea butter don't cancel out that chemical....SMDH -@Sosigmasexy
That shea butter relaxer is the biggest joke I've EVER seen on a relaxer box. These companies really need to be ashamed -@OnMyJourn3y
I don't understand y these hair companies think putting shea butter in a chemical that can burn through skin is gonna help anything -@NaturalDiva09
I think its a set up -@ItsRaeRae
I can't stand these companies putting SHEA BUTTER on their product to make it sound good... It's advertising fraud I swear! -@BelleBells
Your Thoughts ??

Chris Rock is not the only one the promotion train. Nia Long, who is featured in his documentary "Good Hair", is getting the word out as well and bring it to the Chelsea Lately Show. Take a look at how she breaks down being "weave worthy" to Chelsea...lol...Too funny :-)

With the recent let down of Tyra Banks failing to inform the masses about black hair and the issues that black women have with our hair, I'm hoping Oprah handles the real issues like the vet that she is. If you follow Solange Knowles on twitter then you know how excited she is about her appearance. I'm excited for her, not just because she cut her hair off, but that she is slowly coming out of her sister's shadow. Alot of people slept on her last album, I loved it. So hopefully with this appearance she can broaden audience and get the recognition she deserves. The show airs Wednesday, Sept. 30th.
Oh and Chris Rock will be there promoting is Good hair documentary also :-)
Below is a brief summary of what to expect courtesy of Solange-K.net ....
Perms, extensions, highlights…secrets exposed! Then, why Beyonce’s sister Solange chopped it all off. Plus, Oprah’s own hair history unraveled! Emmy-winning comedian Chris Rock talks to Oprah about his new documentary, Good Hair. Plus, Beyoncé’s little sister, singer Solange Knowles.
Will you be watching?
**Looks like the show will focus more on Chris Rock's upcoming film, but I'll still gonna watch....I'm soo excited!!!

I'm sure you all have heard by know that Tyra will be revealing to the world her real hair on her talk show, The Tyra Banks Show. If you follow her her on twitter, like I do, than you know she has been teasing us with litle messages and blurry photos. Well the mystery ends Tuesday, September 8th, which is tomorrow. Now on twitter Tyra refers to her hair as natural, I don't know if she considers that hair without weave or hair without perm. I guess you'll just have to tune in to find out :-)

On Tuesday, May 12th Tyra Banks discussed many African Americans obsession with having "Good Hair".
**Watch and Discuss** If you get a chance to watch the show please come back and share your thoughts.
My Thoughts : The opinions of the guest on this episode were just downright disgusting, ignorant and sad. Even when I was relaxed and wore a weave I never had those kinds of views about natural haired women. One of the women even referred to natural hair to that of a chimpanze....Are you serious... This particular guest was the worst of the bunch for me. Anyhoo, watching the show just let me know that we still have a lot of work to do in the Black community. Sigh....
Here's Miss Banks back in the day ...waaay back....HAHA

From BlackFilm.com
Synopsis: Based on the best-selling novel series by Alexander McCall Smith, "Detective Agency" chronicles the adventures of Precious Ramotswe, the proprietor of the only female-owned detective agency in Botswana. Singer Jill Scott will take the lead role of Precious Ramotswe in the Botswana-based version of Alexander McCall Smith's best-selling novel, which will be directed and written by Anthony Minghella and co-written by Richard Curtis.
As a child, Precious learns from her father a great love for her country and the skills necessary to make a fine detective. After his death, Precious sets up her agency. It is a risky endeavour but with the help of her quirky secretary, Mma Makutsi (Anika Noni Rose), she soon finds her services much in demand. Precious investigates cases, helps people solve problems in their lives, and soon finds a special friendship blossoming with JLB Matekoni (Lucian Msamati), the highly respectable and slightly shy owner of Tklokweng Road Speedy Motors.
My Thoughts:
I thought the show was great....I was a little skeptical from watching the previews but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was....The characters are hilarious and the show was so well written...I'll definitely be checking in again.....Sunday nights on HBO.
Check out Jill's fro...I love it !
